Part of: [Alabama: Mathematics](https://ai.page/roadmap/al.md)

Goal: Alabama academic standards: Mathematics, Grade 3

## 1. Geometry · Recognize and describe polygons (up to 8 sides), triangles, and quadrilaterals (rhombuses, rectangles, and squares) based on the number of sides and the presence or absence of square corner

- [Angles in triangles (age 7+)](https://ai.page/c/angles-in-triangles-age-7/index.md): Recognise and draw shapes having specified attributes (e.g. a given number of angles or equal faces); identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes
- [Understanding angles (age 8+)](https://ai.page/c/understanding-angles-age-8/index.md): Understand that shapes in different categories may share attributes defining a larger category; classify quadrilaterals (rhombuses, rectangles, squares) and draw examples of quadrilaterals not in those subcategories

## 2. Measurement · Estimate and measure liquid volumes and masses of objects using liters (l), grams (g), and kilograms (kg).

- [Measuring Liquids & Masses](https://ai.page/c/measuring-liquids-and-masses/index.md): Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using grams, kilograms, and litres; solve one-step word problems involving mass or volume

## 3. Measurement · Tell and write time to the nearest minute; measure time intervals in minutes (within 90 minutes.)

- [Numbers on a number line](https://ai.page/c/numbers-on-a-number-line-4/index.md): Solve word problems involving elapsed time by adding and subtracting time intervals in minutes, including using a number line
- [Estimating answers (age 7+)](https://ai.page/c/estimating-answers-age-7/index.md): Estimate and read time with increasing accuracy to the nearest minute; record and compare time in terms of seconds, minutes, and hours

## 4. Data Analysis · For a given or collected set of data, create a scaled (one-to-many) picture graph and scaled bar graph to represent a data set with several categories.

- [Picture & Bar Graphs](https://ai.page/c/picture-and-bar-graphs/index.md): Draw a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to represent a data set with up to four categories; solve put-together, take-apart, and compare problems using information presented in a bar graph

## 5. Operations with Numbers: Fractions · Explain equivalence and compare fractions by reasoning about their size using visual fraction models and number lines.

- [Comparing fractions (age 8+)](https://ai.page/c/comparing-fractions-age-8/index.md): Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about size; record comparisons with >, =, or < symbols
- [Equivalent fractions](https://ai.page/c/equivalent-fractions/index.md): Recognise and show, using diagrams, equivalent fractions with small denominators
- [Equivalent fractions on a number line](https://ai.page/c/equivalent-fractions-on-a-number-line/index.md): Understand two fractions as equivalent if they are the same size or the same point on a number line; recognise and show families of common equivalent fractions using diagrams
- [Fractions on a number line](https://ai.page/c/fractions-on-a-number-line/index.md): Recognise and use fractions as numbers: place unit fractions and non-unit fractions with small denominators on a number line

## 6. Operations and Algebraic Thinking · Use strategies based on properties and patterns of multiplication to demonstrate fluency with multiplication and division within 100.

- [Fluent multiplication and division facts](https://ai.page/c/fluent-multiplication-and-division-facts/index.md): Fluently multiply and divide within 100 using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division
- [Fluent adding and subtracting within 100](https://ai.page/c/fluent-adding-and-subtracting-within-100/index.md): Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and the relationship between addition and subtraction
