1. Data Analysis and Probability
- Pictograms and tally charts (age 6+): Read, write, and use the vocabulary of data collection and display — data, tally, tally chart, frequency, frequency table, survey, pictogram, bar chart, axis/axes, scale, label, category, discrete data, continuous data, line graph, pie chart — and apply these terms when collecting, organising, and presenting data
- Pictograms and tally charts: Interpret and construct simple pictograms, tally charts, block diagrams, and simple tables
2. Geometric Reasoning
- Measuring Perimeters: Measure the perimeter of simple 2-D shapes
- Perimeters of polygons: Solve problems involving perimeters of polygons: find perimeter from side lengths, find an unknown side length, and explore rectangles with same perimeter but different areas (or vice versa)
- 2-D shapes (age 8+): Identify lines of symmetry in 2-D shapes presented in different orientations; recognise line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry
- Classifying shapes by line properties: Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or angles of a specified size; recognise right triangles as a category
- Angles in triangles (age 6+): Distinguish defining attributes of shapes (e.g. triangles are closed and three-sided) from non-defining attributes (e.g. colour, orientation, overall size)
3. Fractions
- Fractions as parts of shapes: Partition shapes into parts with equal areas and express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the whole
- Halves & Quarters of Shapes: Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares and describe them using the words halves, fourths, and quarters
4. Measurement
- Halves and quarters (age 7+): Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately
- Telling Time: Minutes: Tell and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past and quarter to, and draw clock hands to show these times
- Calculating with measurements: Measure, compare, add, and subtract lengths (m/cm/mm), mass (kg/g), and volume/capacity (l/ml) using standard units
- Comparing lengths by measuring: Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit
- Estimating Lengths: Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimetres, and metres
- Measuring with different units: Measure the length of an object using two different length units and describe how the measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen
5. Algebraic Reasoning
- Arrays for multiplication (age 7+): Use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and 5 columns; write an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends
- Odd or Even: Determine whether a group of objects (up to 20) has an odd or even number of members
- Unknown in Addition & Subtraction: Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers
- Finding a missing number in addition: Understand subtraction as finding an unknown addend (e.g. 10 − 8 = ? is the same as 8 + ? = 10)
- Two-step addition and subtraction problems: Solve addition and subtraction two-step problems in contexts, deciding which operations and methods to use and why
6. Number Sense and Operations
- Adding numbers: Add up to four two-digit numbers using strategies based on place value and properties of operations
- Numbers on a number line: Represent whole numbers as lengths on a number line and represent sums and differences within 100 on a number line diagram
- The three digits of a three-digit number: Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones
- 10 or 100 More or Less: Find 10 or 100 more or less than a given number up to 1000
- Fluent addition and subtraction: Recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20 fluently, and derive and use related facts up to 100
- Rounding to 10, 100, 1000: Round any number to the nearest 10, 100, or 1000
- Comparing Large Numbers: Order and compare numbers beyond 1000
- Reading and writing numbers to 1000: Read and write numbers to 1000 in numerals, number names, and expanded form
