1. Measurement and Data · Recognize angles as geometric shapes that are formed wherever two rays share a common endpoint, and understand concepts of angle measurement:
- What Is an Angle?: Understand that an angle is a geometric shape formed by two rays sharing a common endpoint (vertex); recognise angles in real-life contexts and 2-D shapes
- Degrees and turns: Know that angles are measured in degrees, where one degree is 1/360 of a full turn; understand that an angle turning through n one-degree angles has a measure of n degrees
2. Number and Operations - Fractions · Multiply a fraction by a whole number. (Denominators are limited to 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 100.)
- Adding Fractions (Same Denominator): Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator, including results greater than one whole (e.g. 5/8 + 6/8 = 11/8)
- Adding fractions (different denominators): Add and subtract fractions with denominators that are multiples of the same number by finding a common denominator
- Multiplying fractions: Understand a/b as a multiple of 1/b; multiply proper fractions and mixed numbers by whole numbers, supported by visual models (e.g. 3 × 2/5 = 6/5 = 1 1/5)
- Fractions of a whole (age 10+): Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (a/b = a ÷ b); solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to fractional or mixed-number answers
- Fractions of a whole: Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a/b as a parts of size 1/b
3. Number and Operations - Fractions · Understand a fraction a/b with a > 1 as a sum of fractions 1/b. (Denominators are limited to 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 100.)
- Fraction Addition Concepts: Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts; decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way
- Adding and subtracting mixed numbers: Add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators, including by converting to improper fractions or using properties of operations
4. Operations and Algebraic Thinking · Using whole numbers in the range 1–100
- Factors, multiples, and primes: Find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1–100; identify common factors and common multiples of two numbers; use these concepts to solve problems
- Prime numbers: Know and use the vocabulary of prime numbers, prime factors, and composite numbers; establish whether a number up to 100 is prime; recall prime numbers up to 19
- Multiplying by Tens: Multiply one-digit whole numbers by multiples of 10 in the range 10–90 using strategies based on place value and properties of operations
