Goal: New York academic standards: Mathematics, Grade 4

## 1. Number and Operations – Fractions · Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a whole number by a fraction.

- [Fraction Addition Concepts](https://ai.page/c/fraction-addition-concepts/index.md): Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts; decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way
- [Dividing fractions (unit fractions)](https://ai.page/c/dividing-fractions-unit-fractions/index.md): Interpret and compute division of a unit fraction by a non-zero whole number (e.g. 1/3 ÷ 4 = 1/12); use visual models and the relationship between multiplication and division to explain the result
- [Adding fractions (different denominators)](https://ai.page/c/adding-fractions-different-denominators/index.md): Add and subtract fractions with denominators that are multiples of the same number by finding a common denominator
- [Multiplying fractions](https://ai.page/c/multiplying-fractions/index.md): Understand a/b as a multiple of 1/b; multiply proper fractions and mixed numbers by whole numbers, supported by visual models (e.g. 3 × 2/5 = 6/5 = 1 1/5)
- [Fractions of a whole](https://ai.page/c/fractions-of-a-whole/index.md): Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a/b as a parts of size 1/b

## 2. Measurement and Data · Recognize angles as geometric shapes that are formed wherever two rays share a common endpoint, and understand concepts of angle measurement.

- [What Is an Angle?](https://ai.page/c/what-is-an-angle/index.md): Understand that an angle is a geometric shape formed by two rays sharing a common endpoint (vertex); recognise angles in real-life contexts and 2-D shapes
- [Degrees and turns](https://ai.page/c/degrees-and-turns/index.md): Know that angles are measured in degrees, where one degree is 1/360 of a full turn; understand that an angle turning through n one-degree angles has a measure of n degrees

## 3. Measurement and Data · Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money.

- [Fractions on a number line](https://ai.page/c/fractions-on-a-number-line-2/index.md): Solve word problems involving distances, time intervals, liquid volumes, masses, and money using the four operations with fractions or decimals; represent with diagrams including number lines
- [Measurement Conversions](https://ai.page/c/measurement-conversions/index.md): Solve problems involving the calculation and conversion of units of measure, using decimal notation and multi-step reasoning in real-world contexts

## 4. Operations and Algebraic Thinking · Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be int

- [Advanced Multi-Step Problems](https://ai.page/c/advanced-multi-step-problems/index.md): Make sense of complex multi-step problems involving ratio, proportion, algebra, negative numbers, and all four operations with fractions and decimals by analysing given and unknown quantities, planning solution strategies, and evaluating reasonableness using estimation and inverse operations
- [Multi-step problems: choosing operations](https://ai.page/c/multi-step-problems-choosing-operations/index.md): Solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, deciding which operations and methods to use and why; solve multi-step problems in contexts
- [Multi-Step Problem Solving](https://ai.page/c/multi-step-problem-solving-maths/index.md): Make sense of multi-step problems involving four operations, fractions, and area/volume by identifying sub-steps, choosing a strategy, and monitoring progress
- [Two-Step Equations](https://ai.page/c/two-step-equations/index.md): Solve two-step word problems using the four operations; represent problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity
