0 of 8 concepts ready to learn · Markdown, for your AI
1. Grade 4 · Recognize angles as geometric shapes that are formed wherever two rays share a common endpoint, and understand concepts of angle measurement:
- What Is an Angle?: Understand that an angle is a geometric shape formed by two rays sharing a common endpoint (vertex); recognise angles in real-life contexts and 2-D shapes
2. Grade 4 · Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction by a whole number.
- Multiplying fractions: Understand a/b as a multiple of 1/b; multiply proper fractions and mixed numbers by whole numbers, supported by visual models (e.g. 3 × 2/5 = 6/5 = 1 1/5)
- Fractions of a whole (age 9+): Solve word problems involving multiplication of a fraction by a whole number using visual models and equations
- Fractions of a whole (age 10+): Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (a/b = a ÷ b); solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to fractional or mixed-number answers
3. Grade 4 · Understand the fraction a/b, with a > 1, as the sum of a of the fractions 1/b.
- Fractions of a whole: Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a/b as a parts of size 1/b
- Understanding fractions (age 9+): Understand a fraction a/b with a > 1 as a sum of fractions 1/b (e.g. 3/5 = 1/5 + 1/5 + 1/5)
- Fraction Addition Concepts: Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts; decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way
- Adding and subtracting mixed numbers: Add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators, including by converting to improper fractions or using properties of operations
