1. Data Analysis and Probability
- Pictograms and tally charts: Interpret and construct simple pictograms, tally charts, block diagrams, and simple tables
2. Geometric Reasoning
- 3-D shapes: Recognise and name common 3-D shapes (cubes, cuboids, pyramids, spheres, cylinders, cones)
- Composing Shapes: Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, quarter-circles) to create composite shapes, and compose new shapes from the composite shape
- Angles in triangles (age 6+): Distinguish defining attributes of shapes (e.g. triangles are closed and three-sided) from non-defining attributes (e.g. colour, orientation, overall size)
- Sorting 2-D and 3-D shapes: Compare and sort common 2-D and 3-D shapes and everyday objects by their properties
3. Fractions
- Halves & Quarters of Shapes: Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares and describe them using the words halves, fourths, and quarters
4. Measurement
- Halves and quarters (age 7+): Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately
- Telling Time: Hours and Half Hours: Tell the time to the hour and half past the hour, and draw clock hands to show these times
- Telling Time: Minutes: Tell and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past and quarter to, and draw clock hands to show these times
- Measuring length: Order three objects by length and compare the lengths of two objects indirectly using a third object
- Comparing lengths by measuring: Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit
- Estimating Lengths: Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimetres, and metres
- Measuring with different units: Measure the length of an object using two different length units and describe how the measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen
5. Algebraic Reasoning
- Unknown in Addition & Subtraction: Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers
- Addition and subtraction word problems: Solve addition and subtraction word problems within 10 using objects or drawings
- Finding a missing number in addition: Understand subtraction as finding an unknown addend (e.g. 10 − 8 = ? is the same as 8 + ? = 10)
- Using objects to model real problems: Use objects, drawings, or simple number sentences to represent a real-world situation (early mathematical modelling)
- Grouping numbers to add: Understand and apply the associative property of addition: when adding three numbers, any two can be added first
6. Number Sense and Operations
- Adding two two-digit numbers: Add and subtract two two-digit numbers using concrete objects, pictorial representations, and mental methods
- Adding numbers: Add up to four two-digit numbers using strategies based on place value and properties of operations
- 10 or 100 More or Less: Find 10 or 100 more or less than a given number up to 1000
- Adding and subtracting: Add and subtract one-digit and two-digit numbers to 20, including zero
- Fluent addition and subtraction: Recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20 fluently, and derive and use related facts up to 100
- Numbers on a number line: Represent whole numbers as lengths on a number line and represent sums and differences within 100 on a number line diagram
- Reading and writing numbers to 100: Read and write numerals from 0 to 100
- Number Words to 100: Read and write numbers to at least 100 in words
- Reading and writing numbers to 1000: Read and write numbers to 1000 in numerals, number names, and expanded form
- Counting Within 1,000: Count within 1000, including skip-counting by 5s, 10s, and 100s
